Chicago Card® Terms and Conditions
These terms and conditions, along with your order form, constitute your Chicago Card Agreement. Please read this Agreement carefully and keep a copy for your records. If you have not already accepted these terms and conditions when you ordered your Chicago Card, your initial use of your Chicago Card, or your failure to return your unused Chicago Card to the CTA within 10 days of receipt, will constitute acceptance of these terms and conditions. Failure to comply with this Agreement may result in termination of your account.
When you apply for and use a Chicago Card, you agree as follows:
Applying for a Chicago Card
Unless otherwise indicated by the CTA, the $5 purchase fee for Chicago Card is waived for first-time users who register their card. All information that you provide to the CTA in connection with your Chicago Card is subject to investigation and verification by the CTA. You agree to inform the CTA in writing or on-line of any change to the information set forth in your Chicago Card order form.
Using your Chicago Card
Chicago Cards expire in approximately four years. The expiration date of your Chicago Card may be checked at Passenger Information Units ("PIUs") near the Customer Assistance kiosks in most CTA rail stations, online at www.chicago-card.com/cc, or by contacting 1-888-YOUR-CTA (1-888-968-7282) (TTY: 1-888-CTA-TTY1), Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m..
A maximum balance of $300 may be stored on your Chicago Card. Card values on Transit Cards, Chicago Cards and/or Chicago Card Plus® cards may not be combined to pay fares. Do not insert your Chicago Card into any CTA fare equipment. You will be required to pay a $5 fee to replace a Chicago Card that was inserted into CTA fare equipment. CTA reserves the right to inspect your Chicago Card at any time for damage and abuse.

Stored Value Replacement for Lost, Stolen or Damaged Chicago Cards
Your Chicago Card must be registered to replace stored value on a Chicago Card that is lost, stolen or damaged. The value stored on Chicago Cards that are lost, stolen or damaged, and that are not registered cannot be replaced, refunded or redeemed for cash. You must also provide the CTA with your personal identification number ("PIN") and your name to replace value on a registered lost, stolen or damaged Chicago Card. If registered, a replacement Chicago Card will be issued with the value that was on the lost, stolen or damaged Chicago Card at the time the CTA was properly notified that the Chicago Card was lost, stolen or damaged, less a $5 non-refundable replacement fee.
If your Chicago Card is lost, stolen or damaged, you must notify the CTA as soon as reasonably possible by going to www.chicago-card.com and submitting a customer service request or by calling 1-888-YOUR-CTA (1-888-968-7282) (TTY: 1-888-CTA-TTY1), Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.., or by visiting the CTA Sales Center located at 567 W. Lake Street, 2nd floor, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Please bring a photo I.D. with you for this transaction.
Once you notify the CTA that your Chicago Card is lost, stolen or damaged, your Chicago Card will be turned off immediately and it will no longer work. Once your Chicago Card is turned off, it cannot be reactivated or used again. You may need to obtain a replacement Chicago Card. Your Chicago Card will be charged for rides taken until you properly notify the CTA that your Chicago Card is lost, stolen or damaged. You will not, however, be responsible for unauthorized use of your lost or stolen Chicago Card after you make a proper report to the CTA. Damaged Chicago Cards should be mailed to the CTA Chicago Card Operations Center, 901 W. Division Street, Chicago Il, 60642-4216. CTA will attempt to mail replacement Chicago Cards within 5 -7 business days of the customer’s notice to CTA that the Chicago Card was lost, stolen or damaged.
Passback on your Chicago Card
You may use your Chicago Card to pay for up to seven concurrent transit rides taken on the same bus route or from the same rail station at the “same time.” Your Chicago Card will be charged for each of these concurrent rides as they are considered “passback rides.”
CTA may terminate this Agreement at any time and for any reason. Upon such termination, the CTA may block use of your Chicago Card or request surrender of your Chicago Card. Upon CTA's termination, you shall be entitled to a refund of any value remaining on your Chicago Card after costs and fees have been paid under this Agreement.
This Agreement shall be governed and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of Illinois. Venue shall lie in Cook County, Illinois.
THE CTA EXPRESSLY DISCLAIMS ANY REPRESENTATION OR WARRANTY, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING, WITHOUT LIMITATION, ANY IMPLIED OR EXPRESS WARRANTY OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE OR CONFORMITY WITH MODELS OR SAMPLES. YOU AGREE TO INDEMNIFY AND HOLD THE CTA HARMLESS FROM AND AGAINST ANY AND ALL DAMAGE, LOSS, COST, EXPENSE OR LIABILITY RELATING TO, ARISING FROM OR AS A RESULT OF YOUR USE OF THE CHICAGO CARD.
You agree to pay any costs, including reasonable attorneys' fees, incurred by the CTA to enforce the terms of this Agreement.
The invalidity of any term or terms of this Agreement shall not affect any other term of this Agreement, which shall remain in full force and effect.
The CTA reserves its right to change these terms and conditions at any time without advance notice of its intent to do so. If CTA decides to change these terms and conditions, however, CTA will post the new terms and conditions on www.chicago-card.com at least 30 days before they become effective.
