There are two ways to add value to your Chicago Card
Using Transit Card vending machines, simply follow these five steps:
 Press the "C" button under the digital display. (If the digital display does not display:
Press "Cancel" to reset.)
- Touch your Chicago Card to the Chicago Card touchpad and remove. (Do not continue to hold card to touchpad.)
- Insert money. (No change can be given - exact amount required.) A maximum value of $300 (including bonuses) may be stored on your Chicago Card.
A $2 bonus is earned for every $20 of value added to your card. This bonus can be earned only when adding value to Chicago Card and Chicago Card Plus accounts, not to transit cards.
- Touch your Chicago Card to the touchpad again and hold.
- HOLD Chicago Card on the touchpad until the digital display reads "Thank You."
NOTE: If you do not touch your Chicago Card the second time or if you remove it before "Thank You" is displayed, your money will not be added to your card.
If you need help while at the vending machine, please ask the Customer Assistant on duty.

Using Touch-n-Go devices, simply follow these four steps:
- Present your Chicago Card to the currency exchange clerk.
- Choose the reload amount you would like to purchase and pay with cash. (Cash is the only accepted form of payment at this time.)
A $2 bonus is earned for every $20 of value added to your Chicago Card. This bonus can be earned only when adding value to Chicago Card and Chicago Card Plus accounts, not to Transit Cards.
- Take your receipt and Chicago Card.
- Start your trip!
 Please remember to take your receipt from the clerk.
